The Best Culture and Nightlife this Side of a Canal

Jump on your city bike or hop on a canal boat and admire Amsterdam, the Venice of the North! The beautiful city houses, romantic bridges, iconic canals and street cafés create its unique atmosphere and give you an ultimate taste of its fascinating past.

Famous for its museums, most important of which are located in the Museumplein, Amsterdam offers you a chance to see unforgettable masterpieces by Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Mondriaan and more. The Anne Frank House is a sobering reminder of the city’s more recent history. After a lot of walking, the Rijksmuseum is a great place to rest and get some extra culture before visiting Amsterdam’s lovely Vondelpark.

The medieval Old Center with the always busy Dam Square and the tempting Red Lights District is the most visited part of Amsterdam. Make sure to stop at Leidseplein and Rembrandtplein, homes to the best nightlife venues.

Shop till you drop at Amsterdam’s most luxury shopping street, PC Hooftstraat, the most popular street market at Albert Cuyp or in the fancy design shops of the Jordaan district. Famous pancakes and frites with mayonnaise are a must-try! The more adventurous traveler might want to try the pickled herring, followed closely by a local beer.

All these attractions are just a short train ride from the Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. Whether you want to stay at a cozy hotel on a canal, a modern apartment in a quiet part of the city or a room in the center of everything, Booking.com has a perfect accommodation for your Amsterdam vacation.

We visited the various famous museums, Heineken, Anne Frank House, and other sites during the couple days we were there. Our main event was a weeklong bike/barge trip that left from and returned to Amsterdam. Amsterdam was a beautiful, friendly city. The food was wonderful. We happened to be there on King's Day, which was a memorable experience. Amsterdam is for the young and young at heart. You must be alert and move quickly to get out of the way of bikes, buses, trams, and cars.

The city was dirty a lot of trash around.

The city was dirty a lot of trash around. Bicycles everywhere lots of shopping, which we didn’t do. The hop on bus didn’t really show a lot of the city. It was too big to get into a smaller areas, but a Canal cruise was very nice.

My main reason for going to Amsterdam was going to museums.

My main reason for going to Amsterdam was going to museums. I bought an I Amsterdam card valid for 5 days it was worth it to me, I also did the canal cruise on the Blue boat which was wonderful. I booked all the must see museums 6 month in advance to insure entry. I can not say I am a fan of Dutch food also we had been traveling for a month so I want very simple food. The main grocery chain has stores on every corner and great salads which often we ate in the park. I bought speciality chocolates for my friend from Puchine he said they were divine. Amsterdam is safe wonderful city but expensive. The bikes have the right of way so it takes a few hours to give way to them . People all seam to speak English are very polite and helpful. My two surprises were it is windy and they smoke and there are lots cigarette buts. No judgement just a surprise

We spent a week in Amsterdam on this trip and have been for work and vacation multiple times. It continues to be one of our favorite cities in Europe because of the bike culture, the warmth of the people, the unique history of the canals, and the abundance of things to explore and experience.

Great place to visit with endless amounts of things to do and see. If you enjoy expanding your horizons and discovering new things, this is a must visit. Take a walking tour and a canal cruise to get the lay of the land. Will definitely return.

The building is modern and located close to the metro station. The city centre is just around 20/30min away counting the time to reach the metro and the trip. The hotel is efficient and business oriented but still very confortable if you want to visit Amsterdam expecially if you have a car and don't want to spend too much of parking. They have a convenient underground parking space (22.5€/night) that is cheaper than leaving the car out on the street (4.50€/h from 9-19).

Perfect place to stay in if you want to be near the city centre but in a quiet hotel. Only a short walk from the train station. Staff are really friendly and helpful, we even got a free room upgrade upon arrival! Free tea and coffee is available in reception which is a nice touch. Rooms are comfy, clean and warm when staying in the winter. I stay here whenever I come back to Amsterdam and wouldn't choose anywhere else.

Location was excellent, the old City Centre & Central station were literally on the doorstep. The staff were professional, very friendly & could not have been more helpful when our Airline cancelled our flight a few hours before we were meant to head for the airport. It was one of the few city-centre hotels with a pool and a very well equipped gym. I had stayed there previously & will use it again if I'm in Amsterdam

We loved our stay at XO Hotels Blue Square! It's a little outside of the city centre but there are several tram stops within walking distance which made it super easy for us to travel into central Amsterdam. The air con was brilliant too!
